Bordeaux Quay was the brain child of award-winning chef, Barny Haughton and founded with backing from the property developer and environmentalist, John Pontin. Barny's mission has been to create a world-class restaurant and food business which is committed to sustainable food practices, responsible energy use, zero waste principles and community food education.

The staple ingredients on the Bordeaux Quay menus are all sourced from The West Country and our meticulous approach to food sourcing ensures that we are able to support local farms and producers and, in doing so, minimise our food miles. All other ingredients come from suppliers whom we know and trust.

The food at Bordeaux Quay combines the beautiful flavours of the classic dishes and traditions of provincial European cooking with the best local and seasonal ingredients from the South West.

We source as much organic produce as we can and our menus change daily to reflect what is best in season.

Situated on the Bristol docks, the Bordeaux Quay building was built in 1926 as a dock warehouse. The flat, front area of the roof housed cranes which hoisted cargo out of ships' holds after they had sailed up the River Avon from the Bristol Channel directly into Bristol's Floating Harbour.

Our restaurant is named after this stretch of dockside - Bordeaux Quay - because it was here that barrels of wine shipped from the negociants in Bordeaux were unloaded right up until 1957.

In 2006, the 16,000 sq ft ex-warehouse was stripped and reworked to the most exacting environmental standards.
