Pyrographic Art in Cornwall

Brian is an artist who lives in St. Blazey Cornwall. He has a natural talent, and is self taught in the art of Pyrography. Over a period of several years he has created a variety of pieces, including landscapes, local houses, local churches, horses, steam trains, signs, Celtic designs and Tables.

As a natural consequence of bellringing at St. Andrews Church Tywardreath he has visited many local churches, and it is from these churches, ancient head-stones and stone crosses that much of his inspiration for Celtic design comes.

The process of creating one of Brian’s pyroraphic wood-burnings is as follows.

First a drawing is made the same size as the final work. Then the drawing is transferred to the previously cut and prepared board. Finally a hot iron is used in place of a pen or brush to burn the image into the wood. Specially shaped iron tips are required to produce the fine line and shading.

Where possible, Brian includes a Cornish Pasty hidden somewhere in his work to give them that extra personal and local touch.

Brian is pleased to accept commissions for pictures of houses, cottages, tables, designs and places of interest.

Tablemats - Coasters - Pot Stands - Note Boards

After a design is burnt on to wood, the work is scanned, sized, printed and laminated. The prints are then used to produce sets of Tablemats, Coasters, Pot Stands and Note Boards in various designs and scenes.
