Hillhead Farm

Award winning farmhouse bed and breakfast.
The village of Ugborough lies just South of the most Southerly tip of Dartmoor. Our farm sits above the Village, with views in all directions of the rolling South Devon countryside. We have lived here for over 30 years, afarmhouse B&Bnd have created a comfortable and welcoming family home which we invite you to share with us.
We believe that the house was built in about 1840, and we have decorated and furnished it in a style which complements its features. There are several outdoor seating areas to use when the weather is agreeable, and the relatively mild climate allows a wide variety of plants to flourish.
After a busy day sightseeing, exploring or walking, or if you are staying here on business, relax in the welcoming guests' sitting room. A log burner, Freeview TV, DVD player and radio will provide you with everything you need to wind down in your own way. There are commanding views of Dartmoor 's southern slopes and tors, and of the surrounding rolling countryside, typical of this area. The room also looks out over our greenhouse and walled kitchen garden which guests may like to wander around.
You are welcome to walk anywhere on the farm to see the animals and vegetables in the fields, and to look at the ponds and woodland areas. Wildlife abounds - skylarks, buzzards, pheasants, the brown hare - all these appreciate a chemical-free environment. Ugborough has a wealth of well-marked footpaths for those who want to explore the countryside on foot. We can recommend a wide variety of other walks in surrounding parishes through woods, fields and by rivers. Access to Dartmoor is only 1 1/2 miles away, and the South West Coast path and many beaches are within 8 miles.
Historic towns such as Modbury, Totnes, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe are all well worth a visit. Attractions within reach for a day trip include the Eden Project, National Marine Aquarium, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Woodlands Adventure Park, Pennywell Farm, and a variety of National Trust properties. Lunches and dinners are catered for at a huge variety of eateries within a few miles, many of them taking great pride in using locally sourced ingredients.
The farm is managed in an environmentally friendly way, our suckler cows, calves, beef cattle and sheep graze the herb-rich grass in summer, and in winter they are fed a natural diet of home grown cereals, hay and silage to produce superb flavoured meat. Our meat can be purchased from Gribbles the Butchers in Ivybridge.
Field-scale organic vegetables are grown for a local organic co-operative which supplies a thriving box-scheme. As a pilot business in the South Hams Green Tourism Business Scheme, we achieved a Silver Award for our efforts to run the farm and accommodation business sustainably.
