The Cottage Herbery

Specialising in everything for the cottage garden. Flowers, herbs, scented foliage, native wild flowers and unusual edibles - Organic plants grown Peat Free.

The Cottage Herbery was established in 1976 with the view to growing herbs, aromatics, scented foliage plants, native wild plants, cottage garden favourites & unusual edibles. From the very birth of The Cottage Herbery every plant has been grown organically and peat-free. The ethos of The Cottage Herbery is that if you are producing plants for natural flavouring, healing and fragrance then that plant should be produced naturally.

The Herbery carries the Soil Association Symbol to produce organic plants in pots. Yes we did word that correctly, the peat-free compost we use (and originally developed) is approved and carries it’s own symbol as the only coir based compost to be truly organic, its trade name is ‘Fertile Fibre’ (visit the website for more details at www.fertilefibre.co.uk). We were the first nursery to achieve this and by the book too!

The Cottage Herbery has won numerous awards throughout its career including the most coveted award a Chelsea Gold Medal. We have a keen interest in certain plant families and have private collections of Angelica, Digitalis, Lobelia, Monarda, Rosmarinus and Tropaeleum.

Why not come along and see us at some of this years Flower Shows. We have been at Malvern Spring Garden Show (where we won a Gold Medal), Chelsea Flower Show in London (where we have also won a Gold Medal), the Gardeners' World Live at the NEC Birmingham, Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, Tatton Park Flower Show in Cheshire, Shrewsbury Flower Show, Kings Heath Park Flower Show in Birmingham and many other Rare Plants Fairs, Farmers' Markets and local Flower Shows. If you want any plants brought along for collection get in contact to see which shows we are attending this year. Give as much notice as possible.

The Cottage Herbery visits many Horticultural and Garden Leisure Shows throughout the growing season displaying a wide selection of our organically grown plants for sale. We are quite happy to take pre-ordered plants to these venues. Simply send for our catalogue which contains our range of plants, order form and relevant information.

The Cottage Herbery can grow to order Display plants for any Shows. We have many years experience as exhibitors and know the importance of having good quality plant material too create a top quality display. The plants we offer are not wholesale off the shelf plants, they are 'Show standard' top-notch plants grown to your specifications.

We have in the past partnered Birmingham City Council in their Millennium Chelsea display gaining our first RHS Gold medal and their 18th! We grew the majority of the plants for the display all peat-free and organic. 2001 we staged and produced the majority of the plants for The Cottage Garden Society display winning for them a Silver-Gilt medal. We have grown plants for Calagari Designs, which were all native plants, Savill’s Garden, which were all 6 to8 ft angelicas (see picture). Weleda’s Bio-dynamic Garden and The Guild of Sculptures Garden, both at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2005.
