Purton House

Free range eggs and organic produce.

110 acres permanent pasture, grazed by our pure bred Limousin suckler herd to supply our organic meat boxes.

10 acres of woodland which includes cover for our organic free range laying hens who supply our organic free range eggs.

30 acres of market garden to supply organic vegetables for our organic vegetable & fruit box scheme.

Wildlife conservation is an integral part of organic farming and over the years we have planted more than 5000 trees around the farm. A number of the trees are part of an agroforestry scheme in conjunction with Great Western Community Forest incorporating woodland and livestock. In this case organic and conventional free range laying hens. The aim is to encourage the chickens to roam more freely and to create natural shade and shelter. It will also have considerable landscape and wildlife benefits. The chickens and other livestock also provide an excellent source of fertiliser for the vegetables and fields.

Organic farming does not only mean producing crops without the use of artificial fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides, it is a way of providing a sustainable alternative to modern intensive farming methods. Organic farming relies first and foremost on ecological interactions and biological processes working with the natural systems rather than seeking to dominate them.
