The British Beekeeper's Association

Supporting bees and beekeepers.
The BBKA works to promote bees and beekeeping and to provide a range of member services to beekeepers in the UK. Reg. Charity No: 212025.
Most of our members 'belong' to the BBKA indirectly. Primarily, they belong to local associations, based mainly on English counties. We now have over 63 affiliated associations. This year the combined membership has risen to over 15,000 through the hard work of member Associations, this shows a higher public profile of beekeeping, changes in EU farming support and major public concern for the environment. There is now little argument that mans production of greenhouse gasses is affecting worldwide climates. In the UK this has given us warmer temperatures so far but this may not be the only change or even good news in the long term.
EU and UK legislation, together with the broadening impact of varroosis, is making beekeeping more complex and it is the BBKAs job to help all beekeepers keep up with changes and the latest developments. In recent years the BBKA has made major improvements to BBKA News, the BBKA examination and assessment framework and our training programmes. Beekeepers will need to be more able to deal with diseases themselves. The BBKA continues to work closely with Defra officials, the National Bee Unit, the Veterinary Medicines Directorate and Beekeeping Equipment Suppliers to provide the best possible services for beekeepers.
Now that the BBKA has a new Constitution, it can focus on beekeeping issues. Remember, it is your BBKA and its direction is set by policies agreed at the Annual Delegates Meeting. It is an honour and a privilege to serve on the committee at this time of great change in beekeeping and the impact of legislation. I would like, on your behalf, to thank our expert Executive Committee for their hard work and dedication to the work of the BBKA.
