Rising Sun Farm

Producer of a wide range of organic produce.
Welcome to Rising Sun Farm, an organic urban fringe community farm in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear.
The Rising Sun Farm Trust manages the 70.8 hectares (175 acres) organic farm within the Rising Sun Country Park. A partnership arrangement exists between the Trust and North Tyneside Council with a view to managing the entire country park in a joined up and coherent approach.
The farm has been organic since 1990 and is certified by the Soil Association (certification number G1490).
The farm and country park are free and open to all. There are self-led walking trails and the country park's Countryside Centre contains a restaurant. Fresh organic home-grown produce can be purchased at the farm.
We produce a variety of fresh and tasty fruit and vegetables all year round.
Out in the fields we have hardy crops like cabbages, leeks and broccoli, and fruit such as blackcurrants, strawberries and raspberries, while under the protection of greenhouses and polytunnels we have more tender varieties such as salad leaves, tomatoes and sweetcorn.
Our two small orchards produce a juicy crop of apples and pears in summer.
Rising Sun Farm is home to a range of rare breed and pure breed poultry, including chickens...
Our farm is home to the RisingSun herd of pedigree Berkshire pigs.
Berkshire pigs are a rare old breed native to Britain, and are currently classed as vulnerable by the Rare Breed Survival Trust.
Our pigs are free to roam and root in their grassy paddock, with fresh air, sunshine and plenty of entertainment. They're fed on an organic ration of locally-grown cereals and legumes, with a year-round supply of fresh vegetables from our horticultural unit, and they help us to clear and turn the soil ready for the next crop. All this means happy, healthy pigs.
We supply pedigree breeding stock and finished pigs.
The farm offers a DIY livery service which includes accommodation, rotational grazing around the farm and organic home-produced haylage.
Horse riders have access to a fantastic all-weather outdoor arena where they can exercise and train their horses whilst improving their own riding skills.
They also have access to a network of bridlepaths throughout Rising Sun Country Park.
The Adult Services Day Centre managed by North Tyneside Council is a tenant of the farm and carries out many of the horticultural activities. This Day Centre provides training for people with learning disabilities. It operates from a purpose-built single story building next to the Rising Sun Farmhouse.
The Day Service has a close relationship with the Farm and teaches horticultural skills (using the adjoining land and polythene tunnels), animal husbandry/care and craft skills and provides personal development and social skills training for service users.
Staff and trainees make produce from fruit and vegetables grown on the farm and honey from hives within the Park. Organic vegetables and fruit from the farm are also sold to the public. There is the opportunity for trainees to access leisure courses such as horticulture, jam making and bird watching.
