Wooda is an organic farm set on a steep, south-facing valley two miles from the sea at Crackington Haven in Cornwall. Hidden away in twenty acres of bluebell woods, pasture, ancient hedgerows and a stream, Wooda is a world apart.

Come to Wooda for a creative holiday. Hire the stunning barnspace/auditorium for workshops, classes, rehearsals and project development. Use this unique artist’s retreat as a studio for music, art, film and performance. Group accommodation is in the farmhouse with organic food provided.

Relax in our secluded, self-catering holiday cottage, close to the magnificent beach, with organic lamb and vegetables fresh from the farm, spring water from the well and green electricity from the windmill. Crackington Haven is halfway between Bude and Tintagel on the dramatic north coast of Cornwall. Wooda Farm is tucked away in a sheltered valley outside the village and at the end of its own 1/4 mile track. With land extending to 20 acres and no immediate neighbours Wooda offers peace and seclusion in an environment of great natural beauty.

Within the farm boundaries you will find fields bordered by Cornish banks, and ancient hedgerows interwoven with honeysuckle and wild rose. You will find gnarled apple trees in the orchard and oak, ash and beech that tower over you in the fern-filled wood. Step aside the primroses as you wander down to the stream, where you will find rocks and slate worn smooth by the cascading water. Listen to the woodpecker drumming, hear the buzzards cry and the owls hooting to each other across the valley. Cross the rickety wooden bridge into the water meadow, smell the almond-scented gorse, climb the willow. And as you find your way up to the top field, chance upon the cherry orchard hut, startle newts in the pond, be dazzled by diving swallows and be hit by the sea breeze as you reach our highest point and gaze out over views to the Atlantic and Dartmoor.

All this is yours to explore when you come to stay at Wooda.

Wooda is an old farm settlement dating back to 1317.

The nature of its landscape – it rises steeply over 150ft from the bottom of the valley to the top field – is such that it can only be farmed in a non-intensive way. Since 1999 it has been registered organic and certified annually by the Soil Association. This means that artificial fertilisers and pesticides are never used on the land and the livestock are cared for without any routine use of drugs.

The land at Wooda currently extends to 20 acres, about 15 of pasture and 5 made up of woodland, orchards and wetland by the stream. The pasture is home to our horses and the flock of 24 sheep with their lambs. The woodland is home to badgers, deer, foxes, squirrels, rabbits and bats as well as over 30 species of birds and a tremendous variety of plant and insect life. Wooda is part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme which provides support to maintain our hedgerows and other habitats for the benefit of wildlife. The old apple orchard is being restored and extended.

We have been busy recently improving the kitchen garden at the back of the farmhouse by creating terraces cut into the steep hillside, and on these we are now growing all kinds of vegetables, soft fruit and herbs.

Our work on the farm is about making as much as we can from the resources that we have, working with nature rather than exploiting her. We passionately believe in the benefits of organic farming on the grounds of health, taste and the environment, and we are committed to bringing these benefits to as many people as possible.
