Brunswick Organic Nursery

A productive workplace for adults with learning difficulties.
We grow a wide range of plants in pots including bedding plants, cottage garden perennials and herbs. Many of these are raised by ourselves from seed. All are grown in peat free organic compost to Soil Association standards.
We make a range of hand made crafts which include wrapping paper, woven rugs and runners, scarves and greeting cards including selling online.
We have groups that cook for the workers at Brunswick, learning important life skills and feeding the team!
The woodwork group at Brunswick started in the Spring of 2006. Previously several workers had said that they would like to do woodwork, but we had no workshop. We asked Yearsley Bridge Centre to help and they kindly let us use their facilities. We started to make small bird boxes for sale in our shop. In the meantime the old buildings at the walled garden in Bishopthorpe were being renovated. In December 2006 we moved into one of these and fixed it up as our new workshop.
We make nesting boxes for small birds, such as blue tits and robins, and also larger ones for green woodpeckers and kestrels. We would be able to make bespoke items if anyone wanted special requirements. Our feeding tables are popular and very well made. They can be freestanding (on feet) or spiked into the ground.
Our next step is to expand our range to include bat boxes, wooden compost bins and planters.
