Windmill Hill City Farm

We aim to meet the needs of local people through a wide range of social, environmental, educational, recreational and economic activities.
Windmill Hill City Farm is an independent community project situated half a mile south of Bristol city centre. We aim to meet the needs of local people through a wide range of social, environmental, educational, recreational and economic activities.
Our aims ...
To improve the quality of peoples lives and the health and environment of the local community.
To meet the needs of local people regardless of age, race, sex, disability and social or economic circumstances.
To encourage a greater understanding of farming, the production of food, and the development of sustainable lifestyles.
To enable people to develop confidence and self-esteem, and to achieve their full potential
.Our objectives ...
To provide opportunities for social interaction and support; to provide education and training opportunities accessible to local people.
To empower local people, in particular those who experience poverty, discrimination and disadvantage.
To encourage user participation in the development, management and delivery of local services.
The farm provides an excellent opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about farming and to become actively involved in the production of their food. Animals on the farm include a variety of goats, sheep, pigs, cattle and poultry.
We work closely with local schools, taking groups on tours of the farm, explaining about recycling, the environment, animals and how food is produced. Information and worksheets are available, and we can supply fertile eggs and incubators for use in classrooms.
The community gardens are made up of plots where local residents grow their own vegetables, fruit and flowers. There are communal areas with flower gardens and an ornamental pond. The horticultural centre includes a greenhouse, polytunnel and cold frames.
Windmill Hill City Farm Children and Family Centre is at the heart of the Farm, providing many opportunities for the children to enjoy the animals, plant life and strong communal spirit. In this environment we provide opportunities for children to learn through play and the Farm can offer many rich experiences.
All our staff are trained in childcare and are consistently partaking in further training to maintain and develop their knowledge and understanding of early years.
Our Cafe has become one of the most popular eating places in Bristol, especially in the summer when customers can sit outside and enjoy countryside surroundings in the centre of the city.
The food is wholesome and tasty, is freshly prepared using Farm produce wherever possible, and served in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
The farm shop has been transformed this year and is big, bright and bursting with produce. As well as our old favourites such as toys, ices, farm eggs, we now stock a wider range of wholefoods, snacks and drinks.
We have Windmill Hill City Farm & Ashgrove Farm reared pork and beef and delicious sausages. We also stock free range chicken, dairy and soya milk and have ecover refills.
The garden keeps us supplied with fresh vegetables and salads throughout the growing season. Come and try our daily picked salad bags full of young leaves, herbs and edible flowers!
