The Old Dairy

A holiday cottage in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside.

The Old Dairy is a tastefully converted milking parlour and dairy, on a working organic farm and livery yard. Retaining all it's original character, while providing modern comfort and facilities. Accommodation for five people, parking for up to three cars, dogs welcome, horses by arrangement.

Situated in a beautiful rural location, yet just five miles from the ancient cathedral city of Hereford.

Winnal Common Farm is owned by my husband, Peter , and myself, Mary. We took over the farm from my father-in-law in 1991, when it was still a dairy farm milking over seventy Friesian cows. At that time, we also ran a small isolation unit, foaling mares for a large, neighbouring national hunt stud, delivering around 500 foals including a Grand National Winner, Party Politics, and a Gold Cup winner, See More Business.

In 1999 we began farm's organic conversion, becoming fully organic in 2001. Unfortunately, due to the financial pressures of being a small producer in such difficult times, in 2003 we made the difficult decision to give up milking. We now keep a small herd of organic single sucklers, mostly Aberdeen Angus.

Alongside this, we run a livery yard and small stud standing Audrey Turner's very successful Highland Pony stallion 'Rashma of Warren'

The old milking parlour seemed the ideal building to convert to a holiday cottage, giving other people the chance to enjoy our wonderful countryside, and see a different way of life.

We had our first guests over the Easter weekend last year, and were fully booked for most of the summer. All of our visitors had a good time, children especially loved playing football with our dogs, Ted and Pickles, and seeing the mares and foals, as well as the cows and calves.
