Brymore School Farm Trust

Scholl of Rural Technology.
The livestock on the farm includes a dairy herd, beef animals, sows (and wearners to bacon weight), poultry and a flock of ewes with lambs. Cropping is mainly designed for the dairy herd, but as many other crops as possible are grown on a small scale in the farm or gardens including potatoes for sale to the public via our farm shop.
During term times the pupils, on a rota basis, do all routine farm work - milking, feeding and cleaning, both before breakfast and after school in the afternoon. Pupils on 'farm duty' remain in school on Sundays so that they are available in case of emergency. During holidays the farm is run by the Farm staff and dayboys who recieve pay for volunteering for this work.
Senior boys can apply for specific responsibilities as 'heads of departments' on the farm and supervise junior boys in teams as they carry out their tasks. These boys play important and significant roles. The farm is financially autonomous and its products must meet national standards. As an organic farm our milk is sold, via OMSCO, to Yeo Valley for their Organic Yoghurt.
Support from Tesco, The Old Brymorians Association and The Friends of Brymore School Association (FOBSA) has seen the return of laying hens to Brymore - so eggs are available daily! The summer saw the return to Brymore of bees - looked after by members of the Brymore Young Farmers Club. Brymore honey will be on sale for Open Day (the last Saturday in June).
