Brockleby Farm Shop

Specialist suppliers of Rare and Minority Breed meats.

We farm, butcher and retail meat from both traditional and rare breed stock. All our animals are farmed using traditional methods of animal husbandry and our fields are free from artificial fertilisers, pesticides and GM crops. The meat we produce is slowly matured and both hormone and antibiotic free.

As a family we have been raising sheep and cattle on the Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire border near the Vale of Belvoir since 1603. We currently farm land at Wymeswold, Kirby Bellars and Widmerpool and all our fields are traditional grassland and include both ancient meadows and lush river flood plains. We believe that harmony with both soil and animals is essential. If you look after the soil, the soil will look after the animals and the animals will look after you.

All our stock is grown, reared or produced within the region. Those items not available locally are stocked on the basis of dietary, organic and ethical alternatives.

When you shop with us, not only will you know where the food is grown and the animals reared, but also how they have been treated and fed. Our ranges are GM free and we are helping to reduce global warming by limiting how far the food and drink has to travel.

A unique farm shop concept at Brockleby's is the farmhouse kitchen in the heart of the shop. Here you can watch pies and meals being freshly prepared using local meat and vegetables.

Old-fashioned breeds are not cheap to produce, they take time to mature. But their meat, rather like their appearance, is less bland and uniform than that of their modern cousins. We believe that the concept of consuming rare and minority breed meat is good for both conserving the breeds and our culinary heritage.

The animals we raise and those we buy in from local farmers are slaughtered humanely at a local abattoir, removing the stress of a long journey. As a result the meat has superb flavour and is available to people who care about the origins of their food.
