Welcome to The Real Meat Company The Real Meat Company is a proudly independent company set up in 1986 to offer what we sincerely believe to be the highest standards of welfare, purity and eating quality. Richard Guy and Gilly Metherell, our founders, were visionaries and pioneers who more than two decades ago were responsible for challenging and providing the alternative to 'factory farming'. They still own and control the company and take a personal interest in seeing that we deliver the promises we make to our customers. We deal with the livestock and food production concerns that the public do know about AND the ones they don't know about. We are the serious alternative. Not for people who SAY they are concerned about food quality and animal welfare but for the discerning customers who actually ARE concerned about these issues. "Like 'organic', only better" The term 'organic' is used by many people as a kind of shorthand to represent Purity, probably Welfare and maybe Quality. Unfortunately organic standards do not necessarily deliver these three together - that's where we come in! Our Codes deliver Purity AND Welfare AND eating Quality - Guaranteed! Put not your trust in supermarkets Supermarkets' constant battle for market share and their soothing lines about value, every little helping decry the fact that they created factory farming and that their price pressure on producers was, and still is, responsible for creating and supporting the worst of farming practice. We do not supply supermarkets so as to avoid their bullying tactics. Meat is the only product people buy which requires another living creature on the planet to have lived and died. Supermarkets cannot be trusted with this. They have plenty of well crafted phrases and sales lines (organic, free range, outdoor reared, local) to tempt people who SAY they care about the issues. The ones that DO care, our customers, buy everything except meat in their favourite supermarket and, for that one ethical purchase that matters, come to us. They get more than just meat. They get total peace of mind and fantastic flavour too!
